Part 1 Part 2

New Johnson Long-shaft

We've managed to find a 6HP long-shaft Johnson Auxiliary outboard for a reasonable price. It seems to be in pretty good condition and apparantly starts first tug. The only issue is that it's a premix so we'll have to have a separate fuel tank for it. It's getting serviced right now along with the 40HP main engine - hopefully shouldn't be too expensive.

Speaker Holes drilled

We've also drilled the holes for the external speakers:

Bow Access hole & hatch fitted

This access panel is going to be used to pass the anchor chain into the bow - it'll save us walking around the side of the boat with a bag of chain if we wish to deploy the anchor.

More work done on the panels

The holes near the bottom are to accommodate the speakers which are quite deep.

Painting, painting, painting....

It's taken many, many cans of filler, primer and paint to get the boat looking clean. The outside of the boat is pretty much completed, and only the interior and deck need attention. Once painted, we also replaced the windows - adding a new acrylic front screen that was an absolute nightmare to install. Overall, I think it took four of us over five hours to get it shaped properly and fitted. It appears to be pretty strong, but we hope a heavy wave over the bow won't cause us any problems...

We also got the two engines back from being serviced (which cost a small fortune), so test fitted them to the transom to ensure they'll fit OK. It looks likt they should just about fit together.

The different stages of the top-half colours

Here we have the boat in the four significant stages of paint. It was decided to not go for the blue and white colours on the deck as the white would have gotten grubby very quickly as people stood on it. However, we're not so sure about the current black and white look - particularly the stern quarters. We're hoping to add a stripe or lettering to reduce the somewhat oppressive large black area. Another idea was to add a red 'A-Team' style stripe which could be fun. At this stage, however, we're also keen to just get the project completed!

Update - she's pretty much finished!
